BBC works with Production Park to trial streaming live music directly into 3D worlds

The BBC Research & Development team recently came to Production Park to trial a live capture and stream of artists into 3D test worlds – giving players the illusion they’re really there, in real time.

A BBC recent article published the details of this trial, outlining the different approaches they took while investigating the use of volumetic capture technology.  The BBC worked with the studios team and the Academy of Live Technology to do the first technical trial and media capture of live artists. Their performances were streamed directly into a 3D space, hosted by partners Improbable.

The article said: “Collaborating with Production Park gave us the opportunity to use real live event stage technology for the artists. This let us to test our capture and streaming solution for potential integration with 3D environments under realistic yet controllable performance conditions, and to film media for further enhancements to our approach.”

The success of the project will allow further explorations into the technical side of capturing and streaming, with plans to develop a 3D environment for interactive  user trials of live immersive music events.
